Old Kobe
I developed this in honor of Kobe after his passing. My goal was to capture his essence at different stages in his career. I achieved this through combining a repeating pattern of Nike swooshes with expressive portraits of Kobe himself. I was experimenting with the level of detail required to recreate someone’s likeness through the use of negative space.

Young Kobe
Once again, I used the familiar Nike logos and purposely made them small to play with the viewers visual perspective. Depending on the viewers physical distance to the piece the theme of the work changes as a whole. The closer to the piece, the more apparent the swooshes appear and Kobe’s face becomes less clear versus the opposite when viewing it from farther away.
